Dominant Or Recessive

A dominant trait is a trait that is always present. if someones alleles is Ff, the the F is a dominant trait. If the Phenotype for the person is F=black hair and f=Blue hair, then the person will get black hair because his/hers dominant allele is black hair. A recessive trait is a trait that gets hidden by the strong one, so it does not appear in the organism. Your parents give you 23 chromosomes each, so thats a total amount of 46 chromosomes. If you find out which is dominant or recessive, you could use a punnett square to determine what would be dominant or recessive.

If you use a punnett square to find which if your traits you have, it's easier to determine what your kids will look like because if you combine them with the other parents traits, you could get a rough idea of what you're baby will look like. I have dark brown hair because both of my parents do, and their parents do, so the trait for brown hair must be dominant. That is the same with my rounded nose and brown eyes.
